Dating Down

Suddenly single and unexpectedly poor, it’s definitely safe to say that Alexis Harland is not living the life of her dreams.

Although she’s determined that nothing, not one little thing, will stop her return from poverty. Well, almost nothing. Her pride might get in the way a little. And possibly her family. And maybe the fact that she hasn’t got a clue where to start.

Many years ago, Alexis was swept away from life on a caravan park and introduced to a world of riches and glamour. All thanks to a wealthy man who married her, reinvented her… and then dumped her for a younger model at the first sign of cellulite.

Now Alexis is stranded, struggling to keep her head above water and her history a secret from her highbrow friends.
As if that isn’t enough for a woman to deal with, one night she comes home to find a sexy man has landed, quite literally, on her doorstep. A man hell-bent on testing everything Alexis thinks she knows about true happiness.
Caught between the life she knows and her blossoming love, can Alexis afford to let go of her unwavering pride, kiss her social status goodbye and accept that stepping back to square one is sometimes a huge leap forward?

My Review:

Alexis Harland’s life is slowly starting to spin out of control. Her rich husband has left her for a much younger woman, she barely has enough money to keep up with the bills, she is trying to keep up social standing with all of the other rich wives and to top it all off her estranged sister, Candy, shows up announced totally sloshed hanging on the arms of the hottie taxi driver, Robert “Bob” Gould, who is patiently waiting for the money owed for the ride. Needless to say Alexis can’t cover the tab and neither can Candy, but in lieu of payment Alexis accepts a date with Bob. Really what else can go wrong with her life at this point? Well, everything of course! This sets an motion a hilarious romance with the wrong kind of guy (AKA not rich), but a guy that feels oh so right.

Alexis is just a little spitfire! I couldn’t help but fall instantly in love with her as she navigated her way through the rich crowd trying to keep up appearances with a bunch of snooty women who think more about their bank accounts than friendships. Alexis tries so hard and fails at almost every turn, which makes for a lot of laughs as she tries to find her way in the new “poorer” life she now finds herself in. Even though she is uppity, she has a lot of guts and gusto. Her dates with Bob are progressing and things are feeling all too real, even though he is only a taxi driver. It’s funny to see how she tries to hide her appearance everytime Bob takes her somewhere like the local grocery store none of her friends would ever be caught dead in. Although she is quite the snob, she does grow as a person and come into her own with mistakes and all.

Bob, oh boy, is he so sweet! Sure, he is a taxi driver and technically a step down from Alexis rich husband, but he has something her ex never had…a heart of gold. He takes Alexis under his wing and helps her along the way become the best version of herself. He is funny, caring, and did i forget to mention all kinds of sexy! I would date him myself, ha!

Alexis’ sister, Candy is an absolute riot. She has no filter at all and it’s funny how she speaks to people. She just doesn’t care what she says or who she says it to. One of the best lines EVER is when she is speaking to Alexis’ EX. This quote is absolutely priceless!

“Yeah, so pipe up, Casanova. Say what you’ve gotta say before running back to your school girl. Where is Lolita anyway? Outside playing hop scotch?”

I laughed so hard my own sister thought I was a crazy person! I am so glad Candy will be getting her own story soon! She is a hoot!

Dating Down by Diane Louise is a laugh out loud romantic comedy that stole my heart right from the first page. I could not get enough of Alexis, Bob and Candy and was sad when I came to the very last page. I definitely need more of these quirky cast of characters and I am wholeheartedly looking forward to reading Candy’s story. Diane Louise, You Rock and have brightened up my day with this wonderfully funny romance!

Author Bio –

Diane Louise is a dairy farmer’s wife from the UK who doesn’t know a Holstein from a Hereford.
But what she does know is how to write a funny story. Three years ago she tried to write steamy romance and sucked at it. Honestly, her stiff upper lip made her heroes more wet blankets than wet dreams. With a steely determination to avoid milking the cows, she turned her hand to Romantic Comedy and a star was born. Well, in her mind at least.
Fancy getting to know the woman behind the words?

She hangs around Facebook daily, desperately avoiding housework, and loves nothing more than chatting to fellow lovers of Romantic Comedy over at Di’s Romantic Comedy Club. Or, if you don’t do Facebook, that’s cool, because she also sends a monthly email to her readers, making sure they never miss a new release and sharing behind the scene info about her books.
