Book Description:

‘You don’t know me, but I’m your sister.’

Claire is shocked when she receives a message out of the blue from Sophie, a beautiful young woman who tells Claire that she’s their father’s secret child. Having spent years nursing her sweet little daughter Ella through a life-threatening illness whilst dealing with the emotional fall-out of a devastating marriage breakdown, Claire feels tentatively excited to meet Sophie. Perhaps she might finally have someone in the family to lean on…

As Claire welcomes her sister into her life, she’s delighted to see just how much Ella loves her new Aunt Sophie. But as the pair spend more time together, Claire begins to wonder where exactly her perfect new sister came from and what kind of person she really is. With their elderly father’s mind rapidly deteriorating, is it possible that he’s hiding something from Claire about Sophie’s sudden appearance in their lives?

When Sophie suggests a family day at the seaside, little Ella is beyond excited. But as Claire takes an important phone call from her demanding ex-husband, leaving Sophie in charge of Ella, something unthinkable happens. And as Claire rushes into the ice-cold sea towards the small, limp figure of her daughter, she realises that Sophie was watching the whole time. But why would Sophie want to hurt Claire’s precious daughter? Was trusting her new sister with Ella the biggest mistake of Claire’s life?

My Review:

Once again Sheryl Browne proves she is the QUEEN of suspense and mindf*ckery! In her newest story, The Perfect Sister, Browne will make you think you have it all figured out. Oh, so wrong you will be! This book just ticked off every single thing for me. It is full of family drama, revenge, murder, distrusting characters and well…quite a lot more. Wow! What did I just read? I think I am still in shock.

Honestly, within the first few chapters, I was like “huh? I already figured it out! Hah! You couldn’t get me this time Sheryl Browne and then as I kept reading, I was more like “What the…what is this trickery! I should have figured it wouldn’t be that simple. I am going to hang my head in shame for ever doubting your brilliance.

Claire is thrown a rough patch in her life, when her father is deteriorating due to his dementia, her marriage is on the rocks, and she worries quite often over her four year old daughter who is a hemophiliac. The last straw for Claire is when she thinks her husband is cheating on her and throws him out. She is not alone for long though when she gets a message from Sophie claiming to be her half-sister. But is Sophie all she is cracked up to be?

I can’t tell you how much I really enjoyed this book. I was sucked in right from the start, but that always seems to be the case when I read a book from Sheryl Brown. Brown has this easy knack of sucking you right in and holding your attention until the last page is read. Browne throws in these little hints throughout the story and you might not realize it at first until it really hits you. There are a lot of twists I didn’t see coming. I kept going back and forth between the characters, especially with Sophie and Claire and trying to figure out what was going on. Although, I admit I kinda felt bad for Luke, Claire’s husband. What a sucker!

The Perfect Sister is a complex and clever take on family relationships with many twists and turns it will make your head spin. I LOVED it. A definite five star read for me and one I highly recommend to all thriller fans. Get ready for a crazy ride!
