A chilling thriller of serial murder and dark secrets that will leave you wondering, is the past really in the past?

Three Chicago women have been found strangled, embalmed, and posed as if still alive. Doubting the findings of the local PD’s profiler, The FBI calls on forensic psychologist Zoe Bentley to investigate.

Zoe quickly gets off on the wrong foot with her new partner, Special Agent Tatum Gray. Zoe’s a hunter, intense and focused; Tatum’s a smug maverick with little respect for the rules. Together, they must descend into a serial killer’s psyche and untangle his twisted fantasies, or more women will die. But when the contents of three inconspicuous envelopes reveal a chilling connection to gruesome murders from Zoe’s childhood, suddenly the hunter becomes the hunted.

Zoe Bentley, a civilian forensic psychologist for the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit is pulled into a murder investigation along with Tatum Gray, recently assigned to Quantico from the Los Angeles Field office. There is a killer embalming women in the Chicago area and so far there are no suspects and no leads. It is up to Zoe and Tatum to lead the local police on the right track to finding the killer. But, when Zoe gets too close to the investigation she suddenly finds herself in danger. Can they find the killer before Zoe finds herself as the next victim?

A Killer’s Mind by Mike Omer is the first book in the Zoe Bentley series and its gets off to a fantastic start! I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the plot and the characters. I was completely hooked right from the first page. Mike Omer writes such a unique and original serial killer that is creepy and will give you the chills. Told in alternate timelines, the story really takes shape and gives the reader a better understanding of Zoe and what led her down the path of becoming a forensic psychologist. I really loved this part of the story and the many twists and turns it took me while Zoe worked the present case in Chicago. Omer does such an awesome job at keeping you guessing and throws a few red herrings into the mix meant to confuse you and throw you off the scent.

Zoe and Tatum make one hell of a team. Even though they do not trust each other fully, they work well together. Zoe comes across as cold and unfeeling, but deep inside she is very warm and caring, especially when it comes to her family. Through the story told in the past, we can see how Zoe’s experiences with another serial killer in her hometown of Massachusetts shaped her life and led her to where she is today. Tatum has his own issues to work through after being reassigned following a high profile case in Los Angeles. Tatum and Zoe seem to butt heads quite often, but Tatum never really doubts Zoe’s capabilities as a forensic psychologist. It also seems like the author might make them a couple maybe? Hopefully? Hint hint! Gosh, I really LOVE them together!

A Killer’s Mind is a riveting, pulse pounding serial killer thriller that will make your skin crawl. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. This is definitely a five star read for me. I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series, In the darkness releasing June 25, 2019
