Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.
So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.
Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.
But for their daughter.
One night while tending bar in New York City, Thea Landry meets Logan. He exudes wealth, power and class, something she has never had a day in her life. When sparks begin to fly, they both agree on one night of passion with no strings attached. Soon, Thea finds herself pregnant and alone with no way of reaching out to Logan as they never even exchanged last names. This leads Thea to move back home to Montana to be closer to her makeshift family.
Logan Kendrick has never forgotten Thea. The one night they spent together has left a lasting impression on him, so much so, that six months after they first met, he tries to find her again, but Thea is already gone. Imagine his surprise when he finds Thea again at another bar in Montana six years later. Only this time, she isn’t alone. She has a 5 year old daughter, Charlie.
Devney Perry created two of the sweetest characters I have read in a long time. Thea is a strong heroine with a terrible and heartbreaking childhood. She was born and dumped in the trash by her mother and has never fully recovered from being unwanted and barely able to survive with her hand me downs and daily life struggles. The best thing she ever did was move to Montana and become the best mother she could be. She is fierce and strong and wants to give her daughter everything especially a good life unlike the one Thea had growing up. Logan, on the other hand, is rich and comes from money. He has never wanted for anything and could afford the finer things in life. Once he reconnects with Thea and his daughter Charlie, he wants to give Thea and his daughter everything they could ever want and need.
I have to say what a standup guy Logan is. He wants to get to know his daughter and missing out on the first five years of her life really hurts him knowing he wasn’t there for her. He will do anything for Charlie and really takes the time to get to know her and also Thea as well. He has never forgotten her and even years later the passion they had for one another is still there. Even though they live in seperate worlds, can they make a relationship work?
This is my first book by Devney Perry and wow she takes two of my most disliked tropes…..second chance romance and secret babies and turns them into this spectacular masterpiece that makes me reconsider all the reasons why I SHOULD be reading stories like this. Her writing is so beautiful and flows so effortlessly through the pages creating a beautiful story that gives you all of the feels and all the emotions and makes you realize why you fell in love with romance books in the first place. Perry shows that there does not need to be conflict or drama to make a story work. It can be simple and sweet and still pack an emotional punch. I found myself crying multiple times and just shows me why Tattered needs to stay in my keeper pile and one of my top reads for the year.
Tattered by Devney Perry is the first book in the Lark Cove series and I am highly anticipating Timid, the second book in this small town romance series featuring Jackson, Thea’s strong willed friend/brother. OMG, I need it like right now!
