It’s the same old story, really.
Good versus evil.
Heroes versus villains.
Light versus dark.
For two years, college freshman Noah Morgan lived his life somewhere in the middle, fighting darkness and light, always searching for answers to a single question:

Why, Noah, why?

The same three words keep him up at night, struggling for air while gripping a plastic cylinder containing white pills to match the white label with his name printed in ink as deep and dark as his memories—memories that turned him into a recluse.
A shut-in.
An introvert.
Luckily for him, that’s not how the girl next door sees him.

 ❤My Review❤

DARKNESS MATTERS, I am ashamed to admit, is the first book that I have ever read by the talented author Jay McLean. She is an outstanding writer and her story about Noah and Andromeda will pull on your heart strings. It is an emotional journey about two people who have a lot to overcome.

Life has not been easy for both Noah and Andromeda. They are both battling with past demons and with a new start at life they are both still trying to find their way. Noah is more or less a recluse, shut in inside of himself. He seems to have a hard time letting people in. That all changes when he quits dorm life and moves into a room in a house so he can have that quiteness he is in search of. Little does he know that his life is about to change when he catches sight of his new neighbors. Andromeda and her sister Milky who live in a converted garage attached to the house. Andromeda doesn’t know what to make of her new shy neighbor. She feels an attraction, but with her history she knows she shouldn’t. It does not stop her though from reaching out to him. Noah also feels the same attraction and finds himself, much to his surprise, opening up to her in ways that both shock and embarrass him. Can they both overcome huge obstacles in their path to find happiness with each other and within themselves?

I don’t want to get too deep into the story because there is so much that happens that will just break your heart and make you cry and its an experience like none other that encompasses so many layers of emotions you will go through while reading. Page by page you peel away all the layers to this wonderfully written story and get to the heart of what lies underneath and it is heartbreaking and yet still beautiful that two broken people have the power to come together and make such a strong connection. Noah is so sweet and he sees Andromeda for what she is, a woman that deserves to love and be loved. Andromeda is his match in every way.

There is so much about this book that I love. I love the underlying messages about hope, love, and even redemption. If you are really looking for a book that far surpasses anything you have ever read before, then DARKNESS MATTERS should not be missed. It is mesmerizing from the first page to the last. Jay McLean is an author you do not want to pass over. She is a talented writer and I can not wait to read more.
